Situating tool and the topics learned in relation to it.

I have  used google earth and google map as a situating tool with proper guidance from my tutor. I have explored few places including in and outside the country. I could get the view of the places I wish to visit. I enjoyed the viewing the places. Google map helps to view the places we wish to visit and get a view of it before we actually go. It will direct and also help us find ways of different places.

I have also used Google earth to find places and calculate time difference between Bhutan and other countries. This can be implemented in subjects like geography and social studies to teach about time difference between different countries and also to teach about Bhutan and World map.

Implications:

It has the ability to to check possible routes and landmarks for faster travel time. Similarly we can use google map to find places, help locate venues and private addresses that users are not familiar with. I have realized the importance of using Google map. Both Google map and Google earth can be used in teaching subjects like geography and social studies to help students find and locate places and calculate time difference, latitude and longitude instead of using text books. Use of such tools will help students since it presents a great deal of information in a geographic context. Students have the ability to visit selected buildings or places. Such experience will boost children's interest in the content and help them learn through technology which is necessary for learning in the 21st century.

Hence, as a teacher, it is important that we make use of such tools in our daily teachings.

Use of Graph Calc

We have also used graph calc as a situating tool. It is a handled computer that is capable of plotting graphs, solving simultaneous equations, and performing other task with variables. With the use of graph calc, graph can be plotted in a short duration without error unlike doing it manually in notebooks. It makes it easy for the students to access and see resullts, both computational and graphical. Graph calc has a very special features, wherein one can type the equation given and the graph gets plotted automatically. Not only does it help in solving the linear equation but it also helps us solve different equations like quadratic and cubic graph.

Implications:

The use of graphing calculators in the classroom, during instruction, increases computational skills and
understanding and analyzing the concepts. As a future teachers, we can incorporate the use of graphing calculators in the mathematical classes to help increase the opportunities to learn topics that involve graphing and computing. Allowing students the opportunity to learn concepts through experience with the use of the graphing calculator enhances students' learning by allowing them to see a visual display of the results on the calculator screen. It also gives them the chance to explore concepts through experience. Hence, it is imperative that we as a future teacher should make sue of such tools to make the teaching learning a fun and worth one.

PhEt simulation

We did an activity on the topic basic and acidic solution through the PhET simulation. We get to do hands on experience on identifying acidic and basic solutions. Exploring through the simulation was fun and I bet it will help students understand better instead of literally teaching  them with numerous solutions and pH papers. It can also substitute resources and real teaching learning materials on acid and base solution. PhET simulation doesn't limit to this topic but there are numerous topics which one can explore with the help of PhET simulation.

Implications:

As a future teacher, we can make use of PhET simulation owing to its various advantages. It is easy to use, so students can play around and modify the experiment quickly and easily without fear of breaking the equipment. Teachers can use PhET simulations in case they run in  shortage of resources and teaching learning materials. It also enhances students' analytical skills over the topics. Hence, kit is imperative that we as a future teacher should integrate such tools into the daily teaching and learning as it makes learning more fun and worth one instead of using the traditional teaching methods.

Using Google classroom as situating tool

Situating tool is a system that lay the students in the environment where it involves a context and the occurrence of a situation. Similarly, in Google classroom, we are situating the learners in a context similar to that of a real classroom.  Under situating tool I have learned about creating google classroom. I chose a topic from primary curriculum and created a google classroom. Initially I had no idea about how to create google classroom, but with guidance from my tutor and exploring on it, I could come up with one.  We can upload materials and videos, assign task, quiz and add link. I must say the time and energy I spend there was worth it.

Its implications in education:

Having learned about it, I realized that Google classroom plays a very crucial role especially during national emergency (like the current situation, Covid 19) since it can be accessed from any computer via google chrome or from any mobile device regardless of where one is. As a future teacher, it is imperative that we must make use of such tools since it allows the students to access the materials anytime, anywhere. It also exposes students to an online learning system which now becoming a focus in the 21st century. It also enhances communication between  teachers, parents and children. There might be some students who are introvert and reluctant to ask their doubts in the real classroom, but use of such tool might encourage the introvert ones to raise their issue unlike the real classroom. On the other hand parents may also take part in their children's learning, enquiring about their children's learning. Techers will provide feedback on their work respectively. They can also communicate with parents through emails or through classroom email  about the assignments and  due date without having to meet literally. This saves time and energy. Google classroom can also be used by school faculties to make important announcement, minutes of meeting, etc...Hence, owing to these advantages, it is very crucial for us as a future teachers to make best use of the google classroom.

simulation as constructive tool

We were asked to include local events, sports, adventures, and places all in one slide ppt to attract visitors in our locality.I was unaware of how to create a simulated advertisement initially. But as these topic emerged in the ICT, it gave me zeal to explore further about it and it finally was an effective and the time I spent in exploring information was worth while.  I could come up with a page simulated advertisement about my locality using power point presentation program.   I had no clue about how I can include all these information in page power point presentation program. However, as I explored and looked for information on how I could make the advertisement with all the information in one slide ppt and an effective one. It took me half day but I was contended with my effort ultimately and that counts the most in learning I suppose.

Therefore,  I must say that constructive tool is of great significance owing to its application in the schools later. We can create such simulation during club exhibition including activities and program carried out in a year. We can also use it to deliver weekly news and health talks, etc.  All in all, I must say it was a good experience and the time I spend in it was a worth one.

Creating google classroom as a Situating tool

Situating tool is a system that lay the students in the environment where it involves a context and the occurence of a situation. For this, we have created a Google classroom where we have to choose a grade and pick up any topic from any of the primary school curriculum. We were asked to upload a pdf, a web link and a video on the topics we have chosen in the Google classroom.  We were also asked to create a quiz on each of the five question types to check if the students really have understood the concept well or not.

feedback on video tutorial (constructive,co-constructive and communicative tool)

Feedback on tutorial and applying it as construction, co-construction and communication tool.

Having done with the video tutorial, each of us was asked to comment on all the videos uploaded by our mates. For that matter, our tutor created a group on face book called ‘IV PCA Edu Tech 2020 consisting of twenty nine members including the tutor. The group was purely for educational purpose. Through this group, I realized how social Medias can be used as communication, construction and co-construction tool. I had a look on each video tutorial uploaded by my mates and I gave constructive feedbacks for each of the tutorial. I became much appreciative of my work through the feedbacks given by my friends and I believe so did my friends as well.   I received twenty seven feedbacks for my tutorial as well. I could see some good features which are lacking in mine and some tutorials lack features which are in mine. So, through this, I can make improvement and add those features in my tutorial next time.

Reflecting on my experience, I feel this is a great platform to learn from each other and expand our knowledge. Further, constructive feedback also stimulates growth and professional development for learners.

Through this experience, I realized how we can make effective use of social Medias. Such practice helps in constructing and communicating each other's ideas. We can also co-construct ideas. This was a very good and a worthy experience owing to its applications in schools in the future as well. All in all, I must say it was a good learning experience.

ICT integrated lesson plan as a communicative tool

We were given a task to design an ICT integrated lesson. We were a group of four including our tutor and we chose 'seasons in a year'  from class four science text book. We discussed about the lesson through google docs. We discussed and commented on each other's thoughts about the lesson. We could also get our tutor's feedback instantly  I had a good experience working on the ICT integrated lesson plan through google docs. From my experience, the  drawback of google docs is that it requires internet access. Unless we have access to internet, we won't be able to use the google docs. And the advantage could be we can have access to files anytime, anywhere with internet access. We can easily share files with other google account users which makes our work easy.  I think such skill is very important especially as a teacher.  I will make effective use of it in the future as a teacher.  We can create google docs and invite our friends to discuss about a lesson or other activities without having to meet physically.
Integrating ICT in lesson was fun and I am sure the students will have more fun than we did. This was a very good and effective experience as we can apply it in the field later. Such lessons will evoke an enjoyable atmosphere in the classroom. From this experience, I realized that adding a bit of fun into the education of children has positive effects in their development. Thus, it is vital as a teacher to implement such practice. All in all, it was an effective and enjoyable experience for me.

ICT integrated lesson plan

Topic: Season of the year

Class: Four

Subject: Science

Lesson Objective: at the end of the lesson, each child should be able to tell that the revolution of the Earth and the tilts of the Earth's axis are the cause of the seasons after teachers' explanation.

  1. design/ arrange the pictures of four seasons correctly.
  2. tell that there are four seasons correctly after watching the video clip.
  3. identify four seasons after the group activity.

TLM: short video clip, globe, chart paper.

Lesson Introduction (05 minutes)

The teacher will ask the students to look outside and tell" what is the weather today? how do you feel?"

Expected answer: "it is sunny and cold",  "it is cloudy and cool"...

Then the teacher will ask why do you feel hot and why do you feel cool??

Expected answer: because it is summer, the weather is cloudy and we feel cool.
Because it is winter, the weather is sunny but cold.

The teacher will tell the student to guess what would be the topic of the lesson.

Expected answer: we are going to learn about different seasons.

Teacher: yes we are going to learn about four seasons of the year.

Lesson development: (10 minutes)

Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter are the four seasons of the year. All these four seasons make a year. For most places on the Earth, a year can be divided into four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season has differences in weather, temperature, and the length and amount of daylight as shown in the figure below. The seasons are not the same everywhere.

Spring starts from  March 21 and ends on June 20.

Summer starts from June 21 and ends on September 20.

Autumn also is known as 'fall' starts from September 21 and ends on December 20.

Winter starts from December 21 and ends on March 20.

I will show you an example. I will use a globe and a torch. Now see carefully as I rotate the globe and light the torch. The place on the globe which receives the direct light of the torch experiences Summer, the places which receive partial light of the torch experience Spring and the places which receive least torch light will experience Autumn and Winter.

Now we are going to watch a short video about how seasons are caused by the revolution of the earth. Watch the video carefully, later you have to attend an online quiz.

Activity 1(10 minutes): questions and answers

Instruction:

  1. Divide the class into six groups of five members each.
  2. Let them to Discuss the questions in the group and write the answer

Activity questions:

  1. What will happen if the Earth does not revolve?
  2. Name the season.
  3. What will happen if there is no tilt on the earth's axis?
  4. What will happen if the earth revolves around the sun the same distance throughout the year?

Follow up

Let one student from each group share their responses.

Activity 2: (5 minutes)

Now you are going to play a game online by clicking on the above link.

This game shows how good your memory is.

As soon as you click on the above link, numbers of flashcards will appear.

The flashcards are spread facing down.

Go on clicking all the cards once.

Make sure you keep in mind the position of the cards and the information on the cards.

Example: if a card shows the word 'season',  then you must recollect where the picture of season is on the flashcards and click on it respectively.

If the cards are matching, there will appear a sound, if not the cards will face down automatically.

Likewise, carry out the same process throughout unless you get all the cards paired.

But your time is limited to five minutes.

If you are done before time, say bingo.

When you are done pairing up all the cards, you will get cheers automatically.

Follow up

Let a few students tell the matching cards to the class.

Let them compare their scores and their friend's scores.

 Closure

The teacher will use the 3,2,1 prompt, to sum up, the lesson.

Let the students;

  1. List the  new things they have learned from the lesson in their notebook,
  2. Write TWO interesting things they have come across,
  3. ONE thing they are doubtful of.

Use of gmails, google meet, google hangouts, as a communicative tool

ICT can be used as a tool for communication. From my learning experinece, ICT aa a tool for communictaion, is a platform which provides great opportunity for teacher-to-teacher and student-to-student communication and collaboration.  If I am to reflect on this, we G-mails to share important documents, use VLE as a source of learning material and many more. Gone are the days where teachers literally teach their students. Now, with the help of various ICT communicative tools, distance learners country wide get access to online educational materials without having to meet literally. We have used various apps like google meet, google hangouts, google classroom, VLE etc. which are of great help to the distance learners without which the learning would have been withheld.
To make effective aplication of we have created a google docs to discuss about a lesson. We discuss and comment on each other's thoughts about the lesson. Such practice is very effective because the members need not have to meet physically. They can work distanced from elsewhere which saves time. In a nutshell, ICT as a communicative tool is an indispensable tool in 21st century and both student and teachers are ought to leverage ICT to assist and facilitate learning for the benefit of all learners and teachers across the curriculum.
