ICT integrated lesson plan as a communicative tool

We were given a task to design an ICT integrated lesson. We were a group of four including our tutor and we chose 'seasons in a year'  from class four science text book. We discussed about the lesson through google docs. We discussed and commented on each other's thoughts about the lesson. We could also get our tutor's feedback instantly  I had a good experience working on the ICT integrated lesson plan through google docs. From my experience, the  drawback of google docs is that it requires internet access. Unless we have access to internet, we won't be able to use the google docs. And the advantage could be we can have access to files anytime, anywhere with internet access. We can easily share files with other google account users which makes our work easy.  I think such skill is very important especially as a teacher.  I will make effective use of it in the future as a teacher.  We can create google docs and invite our friends to discuss about a lesson or other activities without having to meet physically.
Integrating ICT in lesson was fun and I am sure the students will have more fun than we did. This was a very good and effective experience as we can apply it in the field later. Such lessons will evoke an enjoyable atmosphere in the classroom. From this experience, I realized that adding a bit of fun into the education of children has positive effects in their development. Thus, it is vital as a teacher to implement such practice. All in all, it was an effective and enjoyable experience for me.

ICT integrated lesson plan

Topic: Season of the year

Class: Four

Subject: Science

Lesson Objective: at the end of the lesson, each child should be able to tell that the revolution of the Earth and the tilts of the Earth's axis are the cause of the seasons after teachers' explanation.

  1. design/ arrange the pictures of four seasons correctly.
  2. tell that there are four seasons correctly after watching the video clip.
  3. identify four seasons after the group activity.

TLM: short video clip, globe, chart paper.

Lesson Introduction (05 minutes)

The teacher will ask the students to look outside and tell" what is the weather today? how do you feel?"

Expected answer: "it is sunny and cold",  "it is cloudy and cool"...

Then the teacher will ask why do you feel hot and why do you feel cool??

Expected answer: because it is summer, the weather is cloudy and we feel cool.
Because it is winter, the weather is sunny but cold.

The teacher will tell the student to guess what would be the topic of the lesson.

Expected answer: we are going to learn about different seasons.

Teacher: yes we are going to learn about four seasons of the year.

Lesson development: (10 minutes)

Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter are the four seasons of the year. All these four seasons make a year. For most places on the Earth, a year can be divided into four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season has differences in weather, temperature, and the length and amount of daylight as shown in the figure below. The seasons are not the same everywhere.

Spring starts from  March 21 and ends on June 20.

Summer starts from June 21 and ends on September 20.

Autumn also is known as 'fall' starts from September 21 and ends on December 20.

Winter starts from December 21 and ends on March 20.

I will show you an example. I will use a globe and a torch. Now see carefully as I rotate the globe and light the torch. The place on the globe which receives the direct light of the torch experiences Summer, the places which receive partial light of the torch experience Spring and the places which receive least torch light will experience Autumn and Winter.

Now we are going to watch a short video about how seasons are caused by the revolution of the earth. Watch the video carefully, later you have to attend an online quiz.

Activity 1(10 minutes): questions and answers

Instruction:

  1. Divide the class into six groups of five members each.
  2. Let them to Discuss the questions in the group and write the answer

Activity questions:

  1. What will happen if the Earth does not revolve?
  2. Name the season.
  3. What will happen if there is no tilt on the earth's axis?
  4. What will happen if the earth revolves around the sun the same distance throughout the year?

Follow up

Let one student from each group share their responses.

Activity 2: (5 minutes)

Now you are going to play a game online by clicking on the above link.

This game shows how good your memory is.

As soon as you click on the above link, numbers of flashcards will appear.

The flashcards are spread facing down.

Go on clicking all the cards once.

Make sure you keep in mind the position of the cards and the information on the cards.

Example: if a card shows the word 'season',  then you must recollect where the picture of season is on the flashcards and click on it respectively.

If the cards are matching, there will appear a sound, if not the cards will face down automatically.

Likewise, carry out the same process throughout unless you get all the cards paired.

But your time is limited to five minutes.

If you are done before time, say bingo.

When you are done pairing up all the cards, you will get cheers automatically.

Follow up

Let a few students tell the matching cards to the class.
